Forum rules

By registering and participating in ACC Forums, you agree to abide to the forum rules. Forum staff reserve the right to block your usage of the website at any time if you do not follow these rules. The rules are listed below, in no particular order. These rules are subject to change without further notice, it is automatically assumed that you agree to the new rules if changed.

Rules

  1. Basic respect

You are expected to treat all other registered forum members with dignity. Do not demean, harass, or insult other users for any reason at all. Do not pratice prejudice (racism, etc) towards others. This also includes staff, no matter how unfair they may seem.

  2. Illegal Activity

US Law is applicable to all posts. Posts that may be considered illegal or controversial under US law can and will be taken out of public view. If you post something law-breaking, you will be warned once, then banned if it occurs again. If your first post is illegal, you will be banned on the spot.

    • Hosting company (Linode) regulations
    • All material on this web site must follow the web host's (Linode's) term of service. There are no exceptions.

  3. Spamming

Advertisment of anything not directly related to the forum or forum members will result in an immediate ban. If a website does not benefit members it is considered spam. Repeatedly posting the same messages is also considered spam.

  4. Multiple accounts

You may only have one account active at any time. If you feel you need to create another account, please contact an administrator or moderator in private and we can discuss the situation with you. Note that if your request is granted, your other account will be closed.

Staff rights

  1. Post handling

Staff may edit or remove your post to avoid breaking any forum rules. They are doing you a favor. Staff should, though may not always, leave a note about it in the post (if editing).

  2. Thread handling

Removal and editing of thread's first post (intro post), or title, is necessary in order to maintain this forum. Staff may do so do any of your threads if said thread is deemed problematic or against these rules.

    • Thread stickying

Your thread may be 'stickied', where it will retain position at the top of the selected sub-forum index until it is unstickied. Having your thread stickied is an honor, as it indicates that your thread was useful enough to earn itself a front and center spot to user attention. Your thread may be unstickied at any time if declared deprecated or invalid, may be stickied in the future.

    • Thread closing

A thread, even your thread, may be closed by forum staff at will. Threads are usually closed when they turn into unproductive or offensive material and when the continuation of said thread will not result in positive things. You may contest a thread closing, by starting a thread followup that sticks to the issue. This thread may also be closed if it melts into the state of the previous closed thread, after this point you are prohibited from creating any more threads on this topic.

  3. Profile editing

Staff have the right to edit or remove any user profile related information that violates these rules. This includes signatures, user titles, avatars, and related.

    • Avatars

Avatars should remain respectable. Pornography and any other illegal content is not allowed in avatars. Avatars must not be copyrighted images. Avatars must follow the rules listed on this page. Staff may remove, but not edit, avatars without notice

    • Signature

Your signature should remain clean. Personal links are permitted in the signature. Images, excess text, or large objects are not allowed in signatures.

    • User titles

User titles shall remain staff interpretable; users will need to explain or translate avatars in other languages. User titles that can not be verified will be edited or removed

Guidelines

This section covers guidelines. You do not have to follow these, though it is recommended that you do. Accounts that break many guidelines may be asked to clean up their accounts and/or posts/threads.

  1. Signatures

It is recommended that you keep signatures short and to the point. Keep [quote] tags out of your signature; put said quotes in quote symbols instead. You shouldn't use excessive color in your signature, and should also keep bright colors away from your signature. Avoid formatting text unnecessarily, except for comedic effect.

  2. Avatars

Avatars should be personal, original images. Perhaps a custom avatar is warranted, or even a picture of yourself. Think creatively.

  3. Posting style

Post in a manner that is legible to most or all people, avoid excessive color or formatting. Format only single words or 1 phrase at a time. If your post has excessive formatting that can make it difficult to read, the formatting may be removed by a staff member.

    • Large images

Images larger than 200x200 should not be embedded in posts (with the [img] tag). Many image uploading websites present the code needed to thumbnail images and link to the larger ones from the thumbnail.

    • On topic

Please try to keep threads on topic with the original post, do not intentionally try to steer topics away from what was intended. If you must discuss something off-topic, start a new thread about it.

  4. Reporting

It is not possible for every staff member to go through every post or thread on this forum. Therefore, we need your help! If you see a thread or post that you think is objectionable, please use the report function. There is no penalty for "mis-reporting" a post; though the rules here still apply to the report text.

  5. Profanity

There are no rules against profanity, and there are no word censors in place. It is not recommended that you use a curse word every other sentence, and too much profanity can be counted as an attempt at miscommunication (see posting style). Use profanity to emphasize something, not as general adjective or noun. If you have a problem with profanity, then it is recommended you get a word censor in place on your web browser of choice.
